Louisiana Coastal Homeless Coalition

The Louisiana Coastal Homeless Coalition is a private non-profit organization that coordinates and supports housing services and resources within the parishes of Terrebonne, Lafourche, Assumption, St. John the Baptist, St. James, and St. Charles.   The Louisiana Coastal Homless Coalition supports the Balance of State Continuum of Care.   The former Houma-Terrebonne CoC has been merged into the Balance of State CoC and shall abide by their policies, requirements, and scheduled meetings.  For more information please visit the Balance of State CoC webpage at:  https://laboscoc.org/

The 2020 Point in Time Count is scheduled for January 28, 2020.   As during prior years, we will be seeking region-wide assistance in order to coordinate searching for and interviewing homeless persons on the night of the count.   ESG/HUD programs are required to participate for the Balance of State Good Standing status.   This year there are plans to incorporate an electronic survey which would be accessible through most smart phones, tablets, etc.   Detailed planning will be discussed during our January 9 LCHC meeting.

Outreach planning for the region:  Our region which consists of Terrebonne, Lafourche, Assumption, St. James, St. John, and St. Charles parishes, needs to develop a region-wide outreach plan.  We'll need to know what agencies are available in each parish that can respond to reports of homeless persons on the streets in their communities.

The Lousiana Coastal Homeless Coaltion meets quarterly to provide a forum for community stakeholders, agencies, and individuals to discuss their concerns and observations about homelessness and housing within their areas, to collaboratively discuss barriers and solutions, and to form partnerships and plans to eventually end homelessness.   The LCHC meeting serves as the local meeting requirement of the Louisiana Balance of State.   The meeting schedule is listed below.

Agencies and individuals within the Balance of State CoC provide a wide range of resources and services to end homelessness.   The first step usually involves a homelessness assessment throught the CoC's Centralized Assessment.   See Services for more information.

The Housing Management Information System (HMIS) is required for HUD and other federally funded housing programs.   Service Point by Bowman Systems is the HMIS used by CoC's within Louisiana.  Go to HMIS for more information.
